Hey there, chip enthusiasts! Get ready to crunch and much because guess what? It’s National Potato Chip Day! Yes, you heard that right. It’s a whole day dedicated to celebrating the crispy, salty goodness that is the potato chip. Trust me when I tell you this, until I stumbled upon this gem of a food holiday, I had no idea such a glorious day even existed. But now that I know, it’s safe to say it’s become one of my all-time favorite celebrations.

Now, if you know me, you know I have a serious love affair with potato chips. Seriously, it’s a bit of an obsession. I’m the kind of person who would happily fill up on chips instead of eating real food. True story: just the other day, we were at my husband’s niece’s birthday, and they had a bowl of salt and vinegar chips (my absolute fav, by the way). Well, let’s just say I couldn’t resist. I kept snacking away until my husband had to give me the “cut it out and wait for the real food” talk. Did I listen? Well, let’s just say my chip cravings had a mind of their own.

The International Flavors

But honestly, how could anyone ever get bored of potato chips? There are so many brands, so many flavors, it’s like a crunchy paradise for your taste buds. And let’s not even get started on the international chip scene? Have you heard about the insane flavors they’ve got in Taiwan? Garlic Steak, Sichuan Peppercorn Chicken, and Pork Belly. I mean, come on, those flavors sound out of this world.

And don’t even get me started on Lay’s in India. They’ve got flavors like Masala Magic and Spanish Tomato Tango. I’ve tried both, and let me tell you, they’re a flavor explosion in your mouth. Speaking of which, let me share a little story about my chip-hunting adventures at an Indian supermarket called Pioneer. One time, my husband asked me to pick up a few bags of chips for his coworkers. I kid you not, I grabbed around 20 bags. When I got back to the car, my husband was like, “what the heck did you do? Why did you buy so many chips?” My response was, “I grabbed one of each flavor for your co-workers and some for me.” I also said, “I thought you meant they wanted to try all the flavors so that’s why I got one of each.” His face was priceless, he was shaking his head, and even though I knew he thought I was cute but ridiculous, he didn’t say anything more and I was grinning from ear to ear.

Potato Chip Frenzy - Home Edition

In honor of National Potato Chip Day, I decided to try my hand at making my own chips at home. Let’s just say it was a bit of an adventure. I used a russet potato and sliced it as thin as humanly possible, gave them a nice ice bath, patted them down, and then popped them into the air fryer. But here’s the kicker. I couldn’t quite nail down the perfect cooking time and temperature. Too hot and they turned into crispy critters, too little time and they were just sad, soggy slices. But hey, I’m determined to crack the code and eventually share it with all of you. And if all else fails, there’s always the good old-fashioned deep frying method.

So here’s to National Potato Chip Day! Grab your favorite bag of chips, crack it open, and enjoy every crunchy bite. And hey, while you’re at it, drop a comment and let me know: what’s your go-to chip and flavor? Let’s keep the chip chat going!
