Delicious Masala Potatoes - Only 6 Ingredients!

Masala Potatoes was one of the first Indian dishes that my sister-in-law taught me to cook. I was feeling a little intimidated since I knew that Indian cooking had a lot of spices and could get complicated. However, this recipe is so simple and easy to learn when first starting out. It is a GREAT beginner recipe. AND it only has 6, that’s right, 6 ingredients!



These Masala Potatoes can be eaten alone, with roti, or with bread (I’ll have a separate post for a Masala Potato sandwich in the future!)

Masala Potatoes

Delicious Masala Potatoes - Only 6 Ingredients!

  • 3 small Potatoes
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • Water


  • Wash and peel your potatoes.
  • Cut your potatoes into small pieces.
  • Add oil to the pan.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds.
  • Once the mustard seeds have popped, add the potatoes.
  • Add in coriander powder, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt.
  • Add a small amount of water. Mix well, cover, and simmer on low.
  • Keep checking on your potatoes. If the liquids evaporate, keep adding small amounts of water until potatoes are soft and easily cut in half without using much force.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro. Enjoy with roti, bread, or naan.
