Savory Masala French Toast

I first had Masala French toast when my husband made it for me. As soon as that first piece hit my tongue, there was a lovely burst of flavors. It was so savory and so filling. There were so many flavors and the Thai Chili gave it just enough heat. It was perfect.

 

 

This masala French toast recipe is so quick and easy to put together and does not require a lot of ingredients at all! This recipe only requires 7 ingredients! 8 ingredients if you decide to use Thai Chilis in your batch. When serving, you can also complement it with some ketchup or chutney with each bite. You can also enjoy it with a cup of hot chai for an even more filling breakfast!

Ingredients

  • 3 medium Eggs
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Coriander
  • 1 pinch Red Chili Powder
  • 1 Thai Chili Optional
  • 3 slice Bread

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, crack open your eggs.
    You want your bowl to be wide/big enough to fit the bread.
  • Add garam masala, turmeric, salt, coriander, red chili powder, and thai chili (if using) and whisk together.
  • Dip one slice of bread into the mixture. Use the back of a spoon to gently push the bread into the mixture. Make sure both sides are completely covered.
  • In a non-stick pan, add a small dab of butter.
  • Once the butter melts and the pan is hot enough, add the soaked bread into the pan.
  • Take a spoon and spread a little more of the egg mixture on top.
  • Cook bread on medium heat or until the bottom of the bread starts to turn golden brown.
  • Flip the bread over and cook until the bottom of the bread turns golden brown.
  • Repeat steps 3 to 8 until all slices of bread has been cooked.
  • Serve hot by itself, with ketchup or chutney along with a hot cup of chai.
